How to file an extension to file my 1099 with the IRS?

If you are a QuickBooks user then it is quite easy to request an extension for filing your 1099 to the IRS. There are two types of extensions one can file the first one is the extension for filing 1099 forms directly with the IRS and the other one is filing the extension for delivering 1099 for the recipients. In this article, we will explain how to file an extension for 1099 form with the Internal Revenue Services. Follow the complete article for detailed troubleshooting info.

IMPORTANT:

  1. If you are running a large enterprise and need more time to file your 1099 then you will first need to file 8809 with the IRS to extend the extension.
  2. April 15th is the last date to file your tax liabilities and form 1099 with the IRS so make sure to start planning your filings in the beginning of the year.
  3. Form 4868 is required to be filed with the IRS for extending the tax-filing period and is known as the tax extension form.
  4. For electron filing, the due date is one day prior to offline filing i.e. 14th of April.

Steps to File Tax-Extension Form 4868

  1. Under the clients section scroll down to Part VII – Electronic Filing of Extension Information section.
  2. Checkmark File Form 4868 electronically check box.
  3. Hit QuickZoom button to QuickZoom to Form 4868 to mark the freeze box and enter the amount paid with Form 4868.
  4. Checkmark check this box to freeze the amounts flowing to this form checkbox.
  5. Type in the amount that you are paying with form 4868.
  6. Now to pay the balance that is due on your 4868 form, scroll down to Part IX – Electronic Funds Withdrawal Options and checkmark Yes checkbox to select Use electronic funds withdrawal of Form 4868 balance due (EF ONLY).
  7. Enter the information of your bank account under the Part 7.
  8. Now hit the QuickZoom button for QuickZoom for selecting the Form 4868 Electronic Filing Worksheet to enter debit date and amount.
